US Gamer Population Swells to 72 Percent

According to an NPD Group report just released, more than 70 percent of the U.S. population played video games in 2007. This figure is up from the previous year's 64 percent. 58 percent of these game players play online games such as World Of Warcraft and Xbox Live.

Video gaming has expanded beyond teenagers and young adult males as the population that grew up with them ages and other age groups join in. Gaming among seniors has grown as easy to play games on the Nintendo Wii have become popular.
Despite the increased figure, "there is still a large, untapped market for gaming in general and online gaming in particular," said NPD analyst Anita Frazier.
