Blockbuster Acquires Movielink

Blockbuster, one of the nation's largest video-rental companies, has acquired Movielink, a video-on-demand service owned by five of the top six movie studios.
The acquisition does give Blockbuster an increased online presence. Movielink owns rights to more than 3,000 titles, making it the Web's largest digital-movie library.
However, Movielink has generally failed to catch on, due in part to the digital-rights management schemes it uses to protect copyright material.
Films you 'buy' from Movielink can't be burned to discs, for example. And why spend $19.99 on a download you can only watch on your PC when you could buy the DVD for the same price that works on any DVD player including the one on your PC?
'Renting' the movie from Movielink makes somewhat more sense, but costs about the same as renting it from a video store and can only be played on your PC for 24 hours.
New Blockbuster CEO Jim Keyes will have tweak the imperfections in this service if he ever expects to gain market share in the legit online movie download business.
